Twenty Years of Wine Know How – Romania

Halewood International’s current operation in Romania which consists of several wineries and more than xx acres of vineyards is a far cry from its initial foray into a country that was part of the Communist bloc.

We first started work in Romania in the late 1980s, when we recognised the country was producing some outstanding wines that represented excellent value for money. Working in a country that was under the iron fist of a hardline Communist dictatorship, where there was little or no appreciation of market economics made for some interesting times and memorable experiences.

But these first tentative steps have since paid dividends many times over and our Romanian operation comprises two sparkling wine facilities, several wineries and an ever expanding set of vineyards which have benefited from more than £5M of investment by the company to date.

In addition, our operations in Romania product our Red Square and Caribbean Twist brands and also distribute a number of spirits brands. The scale of our success in Romania only becomes apparent when you realise that 90% of all Romanian wine consumed in the UK now originates from Halewood International.

In many ways our work in Romania truly captures the company’s entrepreneurial drive and spirit and shows what can be achieved with clear vision and a great idea.
