The health, safety and welfare of its employees is of paramount importance to the company. The executive team of Halewood Wines and Spirits is regularly updated by the dedicated health & safety team. Accident and incident statistics are closely monitored to ensure the business reacts to any issues promptly and a 50% drop in the number of accidents has been seen (despite increased reporting).
The company has invested in health & safety training for many staff, particularly in higher-risk operational areas, and it works with union and employee representatives, and its own managers, to proactively manage health & safety.
Over recent years employees have been recruited to act as full-time trainers allowing them to pass on key skills, highlight potential operational hazards and encourage the development of their colleagues – this approach also increases the flexibility of the workforce. The trainers are key in communicating out awareness of safety issues on a preventative basis.
